Tips for LinkedIn Networking (Pt.1): Overcoming Shyness and Crafting Connections
Hi, guys! It's time to go back and knock down the struggle of finding jobs and learn about LinkedIn networking. It's nerve-wracking, isn't it? Especially when that shyness and fear of judgment kick in as a fresh graduate from university.
As someone who has already postponed messaging recruiters and reaching out to people on LinkedIn for so long, I guess I can share a few tips to make things easier for you guys.
Tip #1 - Message the hiring team or recruiter as soon as they appear in the job description
To avoid delays in reaching out and to ensure that they receive both your CV and your message simultaneously, take this proactive step. It will also make it easier for you to track your application.
And guess what? The thrill when someone checks out your profile for the first time is a game-changer. Suddenly, tweaking my LinkedIn profile became a mission to impress recruiters.
Tip #2 - People are not that cold and scary
Engaging with others on LinkedIn can lead to valuable connections and insights, enriching your professional network. Don't hesitate to reach out and start conversations; you'll be pleasantly surprised by the positive responses you receive.
Tip #3 - Add a note if you can, don't leave it blank when sending out a connect request
By sending personalised connection requests, you can foster genuine relationships without the need for a premium account. Remember, it's the authenticity of your interactions that truly makes a difference in networking on LinkedIn.
Tip #4 - Wish me luck and stay tuned for more updates
Now, I'm on a quest to find a job through networking. Will it work? Honestly, I have no idea. But I'm taking the plunge, sending messages left and right, and actively participating. Let's see what the LinkedIn world has in store in a month!
Wish me luck, and to all of you on your job-finding journey!
Cheers,
Emma Vu
